On August 28, 2024, Lakdhanavi Limited inaugurated the first phase of Sri Lanka’s first LNG Power Plant, Sobadhanavi 350 MW, in Kerawalapitiya. This stage added 220 MW to the National Grid using a state-of-the-art F class gas turbine and essential auxiliary systems.

This vital infrastructure initiative is aimed to boost the nation's electricity supply security and foster sustained economic development.

This initiative represents a significant technological advancement for Sri Lanka's power sector. By launching the country's inaugural F Class Gas Turbine using LNG technology, it signifies a crucial leap in both technological progress and knowledge transfer. This cutting-edge technology not only surpasses the efficiency of current thermal power plants but also offers considerable annual savings for the nation.

The second phase, which includes the Combined Cycle phase with a Heat Recovery Steam Generator and Steam Turbine, is anticipated to be completed by early 2025. This will add an additional 130 MW, bringing the plant's total capacity to 350 MW. The facility underscores Lakdhanavi’s EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) expertise and its dedication to bolstering a more resilient and sustainable energy sector in Sri Lanka.
